The "1st Istanbul Privacy Symposium: Data Protection and Innovations" organized with the collaboration of Istanbul Bilgi University's IT Law Institute and the Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers ('NoC') on 11th-12nd of October 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. The 1st Istanbul Privacy Symposium aims to create an international and interdisciplinary platform, where privacy experts discuss current issues on data privacy. The theme of the Symposium is "Data Protection and Innovations”. Topics of significance will include the European General Data Protection Regulation’s (GDPR) effects on innovations, as well as emerging privacy issues with transformational technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Blockchain.
The NoC is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions including Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, Oxford Internet Institute at University of Oxford and many more. The NoC regularly holds meetings around the world to bring the centers together to discuss current matters relating to the internet and society.
