Outcomes from the E-Commerce Workshop

The E-Commerce Workshop, organized in collaboration by Istanbul Bilgi University’s Information Technology Law Institute and the World Trade Organization, was held on October 14th at the Santral Istanbul Campus. Members of the Ministry of Customs and Trade, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations came together to participate in this workshop.

During the first part of the workshop, regulators’ views of the e-commerce sector were discussed. In the second part of the workshop, opinions and recommendations of other stakeholders were evaluated. Below is the list of the joint agenda that was set up and will be followed by all stakeholders:

• taxation of e-commerce,

• determining the type of products that may or may not be sold on e-commerce sites as well as sanctions,

• revisions that should be made in e-commerce legislation, and

• devising new business models.
